Welcome to blog post #1: Lights Up! My name is Sam Rosenblatt and I am a current grad student at NYU Tisch in the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. I graduated in spring of 2018 from NYU Steinhardt with B. S. in Education Theatre and a minor in Dramatic Literature. Yes, I am truly an NYU girl, through and through.
I just finished my first year of grad school, and, I have to say, I have never been happier in my life. At GMTWP, I am constantly pushed to create and experiment. Our first year culminated in a twenty-minute one act musical (which is a lot harder to write than it sounds) and I was blessed to have an amazing partner who not only supported me, but also encouraged me to try new things. I am so proud of our twenty-minute, Behind the Front Door, which was brought to life by an incredible team of artists for our final presentation.
I also got to stage-manage two ninety-minute thesis readings and a different twenty-minute reading towards the end of this year. I really missed stage-managing and hope I get to be involved in more new theatre next year! That being said, I'm going to be really busy... which brings me to another exciting thing to happen this past month...
I got paired with an absolutely phenomenal partner for my thesis project next year! My lovely collaborator and I have begun researching ideas for what will be a ninety-minute musical, performed at the end of next year. I'm thrilled beyond measure with all of the ideas we're generating and already, I can tell it's going to be a wonderful year.
